Medical Director

Doug Stockwell joined Extended Aftercare, Inc., in September, 2006 as Medical Director. He has been an invaluable resource to the treatment team, providing the mental health component of the individualized treatment program. He meets with clients on a bi-weekly basis to assess their needs and to review with the case managers the ongoing client progression.

A Diplomat of the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology, Stockwell is affiliated with The Hauser Clinic in Bellaire, Texas. He graduated from Princeton University in 1976 with a degree in Biochemistry. He earned an M.S. in Chemical Engineering/Biomedical Engineering from Rice University in 1980. It was there he also completed all coursework and passed the examination for his Ph.D.

In 1983, Stockwell graduated with his M.D. from the University of Texas medical School and was awarded the Texas State Scholarship and Merck Outstanding Student Awards. He did his internship at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles in the Internal Medicine Department from 1983-1984, and then returned to Houston in 1984 for his residency in Psychiatry and Behavioral sciences at UT Health Science Center.

From 1987 – 1989, Stockwell was appointed as the Assistant Professor of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences at UT Medical School. From 1989 to the present, he has served as the Assistant Clinical Professor of Psychiatry, supervising and teaching residents.

He is a well known lecturer and a published author on a variety of psychiatric and addiction issues. He is a member of the American Medical Association, the American Psychiatric Association, the American Society of Addiction Medicine and the Texas Medical Foundation, to name a few.
