Every year, the Extended Aftercare Alumni Association takes a few days away from hectic schedules, busy streets and the concrete jungle that is Houston to take a deep breath of fresh air in Livingston, Texas. This annual trip consists of three days and two nights at Livingston State Park where the EAI Alumni Association rents 20 campsites and ten cabins for Extended Aftercare, Inc. Residential Treatment clients, EAI alumni, families and friends to use. Over the course of the weekend, the Alumni hold several twelve step meetings on a small grassy point jutting out into Lake Livingston. While the meetings may seem simple, the message and experience is always powerful.
“There is something about being outside, watching the sun slowly set over the water, sitting in an unbroken circle of recovering people and sharing all my hopes and fears that I can really connect to. I don’t know if it’s the fresh air or the presence of my higher power but this trip did wonders for my sobriety.” states Chris Wesolick after the 2010 Camp Out.
This year’s event will begin on Friday, April 27 around 6 PM with the arrival of EAI clients and Alumni Gary M.’s famous tortilla soup dinner. The events will continue through Sunday, April 29 at around noon when we pack up and ship out.
